Summer Roads, Covered:
What You Need to Know About RV Insurance
As temperatures rise and vacation plans unfold, more people are hitting the road in search of adventure—and for many, that means packing up the RV and heading somewhere new. Whether it’s a weekend getaway in the mountains, a cross-country road trip, or beach camping with the family, your recreational vehicle brings freedom, flexibility, and fun.
But before you set out, it’s worth asking: Is your RV properly insured?
What Counts as an RV?
First things first—RV insurance isn’t just for the big motorhomes. It can apply to:
- Motorhomes (Class A, B, and C)
- Camper vans
- Travel trailers
- Fifth wheels
- Pop-up campers
- Toy haulers
Each type comes with its coverage considerations, particularly in terms of how and where it's used.
Why RV Insurance Matters
Unlike a car, your RV is more than just a vehicle—it’s often part home, part office, part vacation hub. That’s why regular Auto Insurance usually isn’t enough to protect it fully.
RV Insurance can help cover:
- Accidents and collisions
- Damage from storms, fire, or theft
- Liability if someone is injured at your campsite or near your RV
- Personal belongings inside the RV
- Emergency expenses if you're stranded on the road
Example: Let’s say your travel trailer gets caught in a sudden hailstorm at a campground. Without comprehensive RV coverage, you could be stuck covering roof repairs—and possibly replacing your camping gear—out of pocket.
Full-Timer vs. Occasional Coverage
Some RV owners live in their vehicles full-time, while others use them seasonally. Your policy should reflect how you use your RV. Full-time insurance is more similar to Homeowners Insurance, while part-time users might only need coverage for the months they’re on the road.
What About Towing and Storage?
Good RV insurance also considers how you get from point A to B—and where your RV rests in between. Ask about:
- Roadside assistance
- Towing and trip interruption coverage
- Storage-only options during the off-season
These extras provide peace of mind when you're far from home and want to avoid unexpected costs that could derail your plans.
Tips for a Safer Summer on the Road
- Inspect your RV before every trip—check tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels.
- Secure your belongings to avoid damage while driving.
- Know your RV’s height and weight limits to navigate bridges, tunnels, and winding roads safely.
- Keep your insurance info easily accessible—just in case you need it.

Why Insurance Still Matters: A Reminder for National Insurance Awareness Day
National Insurance Awareness Day on June 28 might not come with balloons or parades, but it offers something even more valuable — a chance to protect what matters most.
Insurance is easy to overlook until it’s urgently needed. Whether home, auto, life, or health coverage, insurance is designed to shield us from financial setbacks. Yet, many Americans are underinsured or unclear about what their policies actually cover.
A 2024 LIMRA study found that 42% of Americans say they need life insurance or more of it. Nearly two-thirds are concerned about how their families would manage financially if they passed away. And when it comes to homeowners insurance, as many as three in four U.S. homes may be underinsured.
Even if you already have coverage, life doesn’t stand still. A lot can change in just a year:
- A teen gets their driver’s license
- A new roof is installed
- A spouse starts a home-based business
- Aging parents move in
- A child is added to the family
Each of these changes can shift your insurance needs. That’s why this National Insurance Awareness Day is a perfect opportunity to pause and reassess your coverage.
Would you consider setting aside 30 minutes to review your policies this June?
That half-hour review could be the difference between a secure recovery and a stressful financial situation. Check your deductibles, verify coverage limits, and update beneficiaries if needed. And if you’re unsure where to start, please reach out because the best time to understand your insurance is before you need it.

- Collision & comprehensive
- Emergency lodging
- Vacation liability
- Roadside assistance
